Ira Glass, of "This American Life," is selling his newly gut-renovated condo in New York's Chelsea neighborhood after a drawn-out dispute with his condo board, according to .
The popular radio show host and producer has listed his home for $1,750,000 with Compass Real Estate. The apartment at 159 West 24th Street is part of the Carriage House Condominiums, a 24-unit building converted to condos in 2012.
This is the same condo that got the NPR host involved in an all-American lawsuit.
Glass and his ex-wife, editor/writer, bought the apartment for $1,270,000 in 2012. According the , the place allegedly dissolved into an imbroglio of bed bugs, rodents, and broken appliances. Neighbors complained that Glass’ appliances leaked into their apartments, and the condo’s board filed a lawsuit to get access to Glass’ home after the couple refused entrance to the building’s landlord to address the infestation.
The couple, who were divorced this past summer, deny the accusations. Since then, Compass agent Natalie Hedden says all of the apartment’s issues have been rectified. The turnkey apartment has been gutted and is fitted with all new appliances and finishes. No one has lived there since the renovation.
“It is essentially a brand new apartment,” Hedden said.
And it’s a beautiful new apartment at that. The loft-life unit is 1020 square feet, with one bedroom and bathroom featuring wide-plank Castle Combe oak floors.
The kitchen is outfitted with a , , , and vented — all tucked between ivory cabinets and python quartzite countertops with a glass herringbone tile backsplash.
There’s an in-unit washer/dryer, and the bedroom has a walk-in closet and a pass-through dressing room. The apartment also comes with a private storage case and access to a common roof deck, full-time superintendent, and a part-time night lobby attendant.
The bedroom is described as “pin-drop quiet,” and the bathroom has new , floor-to-ceiling stone tiles and a mosaic tile floor.
