Jenni Kayne is partial to her D'Orsay flats: the perfect day-to-night, foot-flattering slide to anchor skinny jeans and party frocks, alike ($495 each). "They are my favorite," she says. "I live in them and come home with new colors each season." As far as quantity is concerned, the L.A.-based designer says she has "too many to count."
In an exclusive tour of her enviable shoe closet, the mother of two—who named after her children—reveals her favorite pairs, which she keeps in tip-top shape with strategic toe reinforcements and copious amounts of suede spray.
"I like to buy a statement pair of shoes each season—that's normally what I shop for over clothes," she says of her love for unusual shoes (above: Jenni Kayne).
Of a trio of Céline heels: "I try to buy shoes that are classic and that I know will last me a couple of seasons or years. I'm not interested in anything too trendy or disposable."
Aside from her own D'Orsay silhouette, Kayne also has a weak spot for Olsen-beloved Gravati loafers in a variety of colors ($995 a pair). "If I find the perfect shoe, jean, T-shirt, or bra, I get it in multiple colors and really live in them." Other favorites: Stubbs & Wootton velvet driving shoes.
"I have been wearing Birks since high school and have never stopped," she says of an unabashed love for the throwback, nubuck sandals. "I think they always look cool and understated. I still wear the pony pair I bought in the ninth grade more than most of my other shoes." Her reaction to fashion's newfound appreciation for the style? "I love it."
