For Jamie Drake, an antique fireplace mantel was the inspiration for Hank Moody’s second floor study. A newly made monolithic wall creates a backdrop for the fireplace and helps ameliorate an asymmetrical and odd architectural situation. Greige, stone and ethereal blue hues create a soothing mood and sensuous textiles like Ultrasuede, velvet and fur lend a textural, nesting feel. Bold focal point accents — such as the paper clip chandelier, book tower sculpture, faux finish desk and graphic wall art — spur and capture the imagination.
An ideal muse for blocked writer Hank Moody, the Juicy painting by makes the imagination race with its biomorphic shapes in saturated hues that convey a sense of speed and fluid movement. While contemplating story plots, Hank can cocoon in his luxe study where not only his lounge chair and ottoman by are clad in sensuous ® fabric, but the walls are too.
The 7-foot-long wood console desk is painted with Paint in a noguri nuro finish, similar to an ancient Japanese lacquer technique. A highly carved Louis XIV-style fauteuil is upholstered with stitched burlap sacks with its back left hollow to reflect the unfinished personality of the writer.
Alas, Jamie Drake’s custom chaise for two, covered in textural Ultrasuede® fabric, is likely to turn frisky Hank’s head from pondering and penning to cavorting and canoodling. A chain link floor lamp, symbolizing his inner struggle, reminds the distracted writer that focus is always within his grasp.
Comprised of countless colorful stacked tomes, Hank’s bookcase tower illustrates that desperate writers will try just about anything to make the words come, even building a sky-high offering to the manuscript gods. Though in this case, artist Tom Bendtsen had a hand in the installation.
A special effect more chic than that created by bored, blocked writers who fling pencils up into the ceiling so they stick and dangle downward, Gary Ponzo’s , meticulously handmade from over 4,000 little clips, casts a prism-like pattern onto ceiling and walls when illuminated by its half-silvered bulb.
Drake designed the adjacent Californication bathroom so that after a hard day of writing, Hank can relax in the whirlpool that’s spacious enough to share (which he likely will). Filled to the rim with luxe features like 16 adjustable massage jets, a rapid heat inline heater so water temperature is maintained, and optional illumatherapy lighting, this home spa must-have is encased in Ming Green Marble Sinuous Mosaics.
Hank can ride the wave of creativity with Artistic Tile’s Ming Green Marble Sinuous Mosaics that capture undulations of the sea. Float polished stainless steel frameless mirrors appear to hover above the wall and are paired with organically-shaped Nexus pedestal sinks from and sconces that provide sophisticated illumination. A vanity bench is hand-embellished with a literary quote.
