To support Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month in October, actress Nikki Reed has teamed up with Brooklyn-based pet accessories company, Found My Animal, and shopping site Gilt to design a limited edition dog leash and collar, launch a curated sale of pet products. All of the proceeds from the sales of the dog collar and leash and 10% of proceeds from the Gilt sale will benefit the ASPCA. We chatted with Reed about her dogs Ira and Enzo, her design style, and her favorite room in her house. For more, shop the products .
Why is this cause so important to you? What was your inspiration when it came to designing the dog collar and leash?
Rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-homing animals has always been a huge part of my life. Even when I was a little kid, my mom always welcomed any and every homeless critter. It's something that bonds us. In fact, I even moved my mom into my guest house in my current home so we could continue fostering animals together. I loved the idea of collaborating with Gilt and Found My Animal, and the fact that 100% of the proceeds goes to the ASPCA is absolutely ideal. I wanted to create something that felt earthy, and natural, not flashy. My dogs are hikers, runners, and very outdoorsy, so I designed these with them in mind.
What are your favorite dog products? What do you love to spoil your dogs with?
My dogs love tennis balls, or anything you can throw, so when I discovered the Whip It ball thrower I was ecstatic because my arm got a little break! Those kids can run forever!
A lot of dog owners say their dogs rule the house, is that the same for you? Where do they like to hang out at home?
My dogs have a very large presence, so in a sense they rule the house, but I have them very well-trained because I think it's important to keep a calm house when you have over 200 pounds of dog running around. They have their own beds, and Enzo even has his own fountain to swim in!

What's your home decorating style like? What's on your home wishlist?
My home is very eclectic, and because I like to collect things when I travel, I don't really have a consistent theme in my house. It has a kind of a hippy/funky feel. But everything is very organized because I need that for my sanity. Most of the artwork and photography was done by my brother, and my mom sewed a lot of the pillows and built cabinets throughout the house. We are a very close family! I'm currently working on creating a meditation space, but my big wishlist item is a new kitchen, or a new bathroom. My house was built in the '20s and then renovated in the '70s so it's a work in progress!
What's your favorite room in your house?
My favorite room in the house is my downstairs TV/guest bedroom. I like small cozy spaces, and that's exactly what it is. I took an old mattress and turned it sideways, and used a vintage room divider as the headboard so it doubles as a couch with lots of rows of pillows for movie night!
What is one essential decorating tip for any dog owner?
I hate how messy and tangled all of my leashes get, so I got a cute woven basket that hangs out in the entry way where I roll up all of my leashes.
