The former home of iconic ballerina Margot Fonteyn is set to become one of the finest properties in London's Knightsbridge, following a major redevelopment project.

The five bedroom Amberwood House was originally built in 1928 and was the Panamanian embassy between the early 1930s and late 1990s. Margot, who danced with the Royal Ballet until 1962, lived there with her ambassador husband Roberto Arias during the 1950s and 60s and was said to have hosted a number of celebrity guests, including Princess Margaret, Yves Saint Laurent, Michael Somes, and Peter Sellers.

The three story brick mansion, which has been in the hands of developer group K10 since 2011, is located at 17A Thurloe Place, close to Harrods and directly opposite the Victoria and Albert Museum. It features tall French and sash windows as well as ornamental balconies, but the interior is now being refurbished to meet 'refined luxury living' standards, and it has a guide price to match. When the property launches in 2019, it is expected to sell for £75 million, which is over $99 million.

Visitors to the mansion will be greeted by a double height entrance hall with a grand chandelier and marble flooring. Three sets of French doors offer views onto the garden and a long gallery gives access to three separate living areas, a cocktail bar and a 10-12 seat dining area.

The lower ground floor is home to the kitchen, breakfast and family room, as well as a club room with a cinema and a walk-in wine cellar. There are also staff quarters, should the residents need them, while the basement has been transformed into a spa and swimming pool complex.

As for the bedrooms, the master bedroom suite occupies the entire first floor, with His and Her dressing rooms and His and Her marble bathrooms. The other four en-suite bedrooms are located on the top floor.

According to the developers, Amberwood House is a "hidden gem in an ultra-prime address." Kam Babaee, chief executive of K10 Group, adds: "The refurbished and enlarged house is an exemplar of fine craftsmanship, exceptional interior design and meticulous architectural detailing and is a truly unique luxury residence."
