Floral Arrangements To Try If You Have A Winter Zodiac Sign

Capricorn, Aquarius or Pisces, your next centerpiece was written in the stars.

With the new year and the promise of a fresh start at its core, there's perhaps no better season than winter to take on the sometimes daunting, sometimes thrilling task of reinvention. Few hold this truth closer than the winter babies born under the astrological signs of Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces.

To celebrate their reflective and formative spirit and (even more importantly) the final stretch of cold weather, we called on floral designer Katie Chirgotis, the founder of , and designer-astrologist Allie Couch of to translate the essence of each sign into a beautiful bouquet.

"This is the sign that sits atop the zodiac wheel, marking achievement, glory, and dedication," Couch notes. "There is a strict focus and structure that the season of Capricorn teaches us as we make high-reaching intentions at the new year."

Translating that energy into an arrangement, "it felt fitting to create a 'spine' to carry the viewers gaze before it dove down to swirl in the early spring bulb flowers," Chirgotis says. To do so, she used a woven birch branch, and then placed ranunculus, Fritallaria meleagris, and foraged marsh grass front and center.

The arrangement, Couch says, "speaks to mastery, structure, and restraint — qualities needed to achieve things of long-lasting integrity."

"Aquarian energy is associated with progressive, avant-garde, forward thinking," Chirgotis says, explaining why she chose "curious" elements like glittered Gypsum and staked okra for this arrangement, and anchored it in a space-age container. More dried elements, including Protea Banksia and foraged desert grass nod to the sign's elemental air quality, she adds.

"It's in this sign's reign that we start to think about the future, sensing subtle hints of spring's arrival," Couch says. "Get creative and innovative with floral during this sign's chilled solar rays. See what foliage you can scavenge in the brittle, breezy notes of mid-winter. Let the unusual shine as you push yourself to think outside of the box."

Pisces, the last solar season of winter, also marks our last stop on a full tour of the zodiac. "It's in this sign that we are meant to decompress, heal, dream, and find meaning in all that came since the fresh beginnings of spring," says Couch. Florals inspired by the otherworldly sea — like this arrangement's kelp bulb, which Chirgotis says washed up from Monterey Bay and dried "in the most exquisite sea-wave shape" — provide a setting and mood to think more symbolically about life, allowing your boundaries of self to melt away, according to Couch.

Floating pale orchid blooms and statice balance the installation, fashioned out of copper pipe and leather tiles, and call to mind starfish and coral.
