In design, as in life, there are key moments, people, and trends that are eternal. We call them Design Lodestars, and in honor of Siweb's new television series , we're counting down our favorites—from colors and houses to places and decorators—that changed the design landscape. As you’ll see when the show premieres May 1st at 10p.m. EST on , BRW pays tribute to some of the greatest designs and styles of the last century, from Hollywood Regency to the Bauhaus, taking design inspiration from the pages of Siweb.
First up: Modern Marrakech. Of course there are other cities in Morocco, Fez and Tangier included, where a visit inspires a thousand clicks. But for me, it’s the pink city that always has my heart. Yves and Majorelle! La Mamounia hotel! The bougainvillea! The tile work, the craftsmanship, and the amazing colors that hit your eyeballs as sharply as the benign masochism of the city's famed central square, Djemaa el-fna.
