For feline lovers 'round the globe, a bit of a hairball problem persists: Cat furniture is often clunky, boring and just plain unattractive. When was the last time you saw a scratching post on the pages of your favorite shelter magazine?
But feline lovers who also have a penchant for design needn't fret, for the world is changing. There is now a furniture design show just for cats, particularly meant to elevate (sometimes, literally) their well-being and lower stress in owners who may live in small, urban spaces.
will debut during next month, and is the creation of founder Tan Chin Chin. During the exhibition, nine designers will showcase chic, cat-tested and owner-approved furniture pieces for compact spaces. Big bonus: Cats may be present at the event.
"As more Singaporeans adopt street cats and integrate them into their households, there is a growing demand for quality cat furniture," says Tan.
If demand for the furniture — which ranges from a "temple" bed to a "cat tree" — proves to be high after the show, some of the designs will go into production. Part of the proceeds from the sale of the cat furniture will be donated to the (CWS).
The cat furniture employs small space techniques often seen in human-sized furniture: For instance, one piece — a pop-up cat house made from cardboard — can even be folded up and stored when not in use, reports .
It's no secret that cat owners love their pets, but when that love can be expressed in a way that fits with your home's aesthetic, it's double as nice.
