With summer upon us, we’ve got vacation on the brain. It’s highly likely that your Instagram feed is filling up fast with snapshots of exotic tropical locales, but may we suggest a sojourn to the capital of that boot-shaped corner of the world: Rome. Imagine waking up in a private home to views of the Colosseum outside your bedroom window, dining al fresco on a secluded rooftop terrace, or going to sleep in the same very same residence where Emperor Napoleon III lived in 1830.

Notoriously, the downside of private home rentals is the lack of amenities (No concierge? No guided tours?)—but Italy’s (the brainchild of brothers Massimo and Maurizio Micangeli) is turning the home rental business on it’s head, serving up all the luxuries of a five-star hotel while offering unique, private stays in Italian palazzos, suites, and penthouses.

The Grand House maintains a portfolio of a dozen properties, including two new properties that are opening on July 1, situated in central Rome and a roster of amenities, like a 24/7 concierge service aptly named “Ask Alfred” and private tours—anyone game for a helicopter visit to the Bolgheri wineries north of Rome?
