This Spooky Abandoned Theme Park In Japan Is The Anti-Disney

It shut down in 2006 and what has happened in the decade since is mesmerizing.

You won't find any Mickey ears or smiling faces at this forgotten amusement park. is located in Japan's Nara Prefecture and opened in 1961 in an attempt to become the Japanese version to Disneyland. But only 45 years later, the park closed after popularity declined.

Today, the rides are overgrown with vines and weeds, but are mesmerizing in the photos captured by . He visited the park last month (even though it's illegal!) and says what he found inside was a "strange" atmosphere.

"When you think about all the good memories that were made there, you get nostalgic about the time when the park was full of joy and people," Veillon told .
