To modernize the house while retaining its spirit, Huniford knocked down walls and converted three small existing rooms into a multifunctional loft-like area. Ripping the sheetrock from the ceiling revealed randomly arranged beams; Huniford added several more to create a sense of architectural interest. A pair of bookcases made of reclaimed wood and plumbing piping add warmth and rustic texture; a pair of the designer's face a custom sofa upholstered in a Nobilis linen. The dining area's custom table is surrounded by vintage chairs upholstered in a Pierre Frey fabric, and the light fixture is also vintage. Huniford replaced the door to the mudroom with a sliding barn door, adding warmth and texture. The wood flooring, reclaimed from a barn in Vermont, was stained a chalky gray.
